They should have told you when you went on the BCP. I try and remind women every year with their Well Women Exams as well as first time users. We have a hand out that we give as well.
I also try and ask women when I give them an Abx also.
Be careful!

I knew about this, and one time I asked the pharmacist (who just so happened to be an OLD man!) about an antibiotic that he was giving me (I don't even remember which one because it was so long ago) and he gave me this condesending look like "Shame on you!" and said something like, "Why don't you just not have sex!" How rude!

i'm telling you guys! the patch is the way to go!! it's pretty idiot-proof (look at me!) and it has a built in 48hr window - depending on where in the cycle you are (obviously you don't want to have to use it, but it's the oh poop i forgot to change it yesterday comfort!)

I know the patch is waterproof and very adhesive and all that good stuff, but I would still be in constant fear of it getting scraped or rubbed off. Have you had any trouble with this?

I'm just a worrier by nature, lol. If it isn't one thing, it's another.

Every time the MD prescribes a med, always good to remind them that you are taking BCP and ask if it affects it... antibiotics are one that you always need to use extra protection with.

Related to the pill, if I'm traveling overseas do I take it at my normal time (say 10pm Virginia time) or do I take it at 10pm Prague time? Or does it matter that much? Thanks!

I think you should take them at your normal time i.e. if you take them at 9am back home, you take it when it is 9am back home, not 9am at your holiday destination.

This may mean taking it at an unsocial hour, so this is when it depends on the type of pill you are taking. If it is a "combined" oestrogen/progestogen pill, then you have a 12 hour buffer window to take it. If it is a "mini" or progestogen only pill, then the buffer window is down to 3 hours.

I hope that makes sense!

alright, so i have some bc pill questions. first, are there any that don't make you gain 20+ pounds. every pill i've been on has made me balloon by at least 20 pounds, and it isn't water weight looking weight...like, my face gets fat and i look really unhealthy (seacow-esque, if you will). also, i have depression in my family and have suffered from both depression and anxiety. birth control pills tend to make it worse.

ortho tricyclen - mood swings, irritability, crying for no reason, 30 pound weight gain
some orange packaged stuff - same thing as above
loestrin 24 - 20 pound weight gain

i want to be on the pill or something so that i have a backup in case a condom fails. i just want to be protected and don't want babies juset yet. any suggestions? i've thought about asking for yaz, but maybe i just can't take birth control? i just don't want to become an unhealthy bipolar blob. suggestions please!

If I were you I would try the Yaz or Yazmin. Either is a good option for wt gain with the pill. I do have to say that yours is extreem usually 5 lbs on the pill is about max. Depo..... another story.

The other thing you might think about is the Nuva Ring. It is progesterone only...
