Default Thyroid nodules

hello to everybody:-)

It's been a while since I post...I've just got diagnosed with thyroid nodules ( basically my blodtest got back funky and finally it's hypothyroidism caused by nodules).
I had specialist (doc) appointment this morning, but she wasn't highly motivated to talk to me, so I didn't get any information at all from her.. (I will have biopsy in month or so)..well I know the docs are busy, but right now I'm just huge walking question!

I can "google it", but I'm scared of what can come back...I know I'll be on thyroid hormone rest of my life...but the words nodules and biopsy scares me a lot.
I've been really tired during almost whole 2007 and sleepy as well...and with the treatment I didn't get any better...so my dosage from today is going to be 100 mg of Euritox ( levotiroxine)..( and with the new job .....I look like walking zombie)

Dana..I'd really appreciate any info ( special diet to follow, give up coffee..)...( specially on the biopsy- does it hurts?...),

thanks a lot..

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis several years ago, it's a different kind of hypothyroidism, but I also have to be on levothyroxine for the rest of my life. It scared me a bit at first, but it's really not a big deal. Once you're on the medication a bit you'll feel SOOO much better, and a lot of the time people loose some weight as well!

Try to keep those positives in mind while you're going through the biopsy *hugs*

Here in the states, most Endocrinologist's do the fine needle biopsy without any local. they don't go deep and it's a very small caliber needle.

How long have you been on Thyroid meds? Are you sure it is not 100 mcg (micrograms)? big difference than mg's (milligrams)

They are doing the biopsy to be sure that it is nothing serious like cancer. At your age, VERY RARE!!! Likely what you have is a multinodular goiter. We treat those with thyroid and monitor your blood level for your thyroid for the rest of your life. Extremely common problem. I check TSH on pt's at least every 6-12 months once they are stable. When adjusting thyroid dosage, every 6-8 wks. Stay with it till your level is with in normal limits, then follow up in 3-6mos to get it rechecked at least once.

Diet won't help anything including caffeine for HYPOthryoid. If you had HYPERthryoid, we wouldn't want you drinking a lot of caffeine because it can really raise your heart rate.

1 month is ok to wait. I know that it is frustrating and worrisome but try not to be. More than likely, all will be fine.

Thank yo very much Dana and devine ,

Sorry I mixed up the units, it´s 100 micrograms ( here the levothyroxine is commercialized under name Eutirox followed by 50, 75, 100 etc.)
I had blodtest the very first day of the treatment just to confirm the previous values of T4 and TSH and since than ( nov.2007) I´d been taking the medication ( 50 micrograms) and on the top I had eco that confirmed nodules. GP referred me to endocrinologist ( appointment yesterday). After 2 months of meds I didn´t feel any better, I can follow a sleep and keep sleeping for 14 hours, I´m slow..forgetfull ...and I can go on. I suppose that´s why the doc decided to higher the dosage without blod test, now I have to wait untill end of the march to see if the hormones are Ok.

I´m not afraid of neels ( well the one they used for biopsy of one of my tits last year wasn´t so fine ), but I´m not confortable with lack of info. Thanks a lot Dana, you cleared a lot for me. I hope to feel better soon and hopefully the biopsy will turn out well too.

One more thing: Should I take meds some time before breakfest? I´m taking them around 20- 30 minutes before. Is the absortion getting worse if I mixed with the food?

Hugs to all of you.

Keep us posted on you and your outcome. Wishing you only the very best!!

I really don't think that it matters when you take the med. the absorption is the same.

It doesn't? On the bottle it says take in the morning on an empty stomach 30 minutes before eating. Its such a pain when I forget to take it when I get up. Another question about that, if I miss a dose one day, should I take two the next, or take one that night and one the next morning? I've only forgotten a couple times, and I feel really tired the next day but I don't know if it has anything to do with that or that my little sister made me stay up half the night with her the night before! (I usually spend the night at my parents and forget to take the meds with me!)
