| Yesterday we made a trip to see my in-laws in Arkansas. My MIL (DH's stepmother) has rapidly progressing early on-set Alzheimers and is now very debilitated. My FIL still has her in the home and has her good for nothing youngest daughter living with them. My SIL is supposed to be caring for her Mom and keeping the house as she quit her job at Mcdonalds (yes DH's stepfamily members are the poster chilren for all the AR sterotypes). Yet the house is GROSS! I'm not a great housekeeper and can definately tolerate messiness and a few dirty dishes so if I find it disgusting it really is. I took it upon myself to clean the fridge because it was gray with spatters -then the counters, stove, dishwasher and floor. I found the kitchen to be crawling with cockroaches and other bugs! There were dead ones in the fridge and everywhere else. My FIL says that he is spraying for them but didn't mention baits or anything. My main question is: Is there a health risk here or are cockroaches just icky? Secondly: Does anyone have experience in getting rid of them? I'm trying not to freak out here. I know now that it was my MIL who kept that house as neat a pin and could certainly make concessions for my FIL if he were the one trying to work, care for MIL and keep the house but that is not the case. Trena is and always has been a major slob and has carried that over into this home. The other stepsiblings have stepped back from helping over there because Trena is supposed to be doing it (and it is not only hard to see their Mom deteriorate but also to see the house so gross). We live two and a half hours away and MIL and DH have always had a very rocky relationship. I encourage DH to down once and awhile and I have helped my FIL with social service type stuff (medicare/medicaid, med management, nursing home procedures, home health) but there is only so much we can do due to the difficult relationship and our distance. Ugh! It was really bad. I guess I just needed to vent too, but what are your thoughts on the bugs? Thanks Jackie
