| They have cold packs of a gel at walmart or practically any pharmacy that slide into your bra that helps with soreness...especially after your milk comes in... I am not sure about the whole cabbage thing...? |

| Jetgirls Member | LOL - cabbage, that is great .... I wouldn't do it, but that is hilarious! You should feel like a doof! I have five kids, I have never used cabbage, but I do use the gel breat pads. I get the ones made by Soothies ( they make the pacifiers you get in the hospital) - they work really well, last about a week, and you can toss them in the freezer if you really need some relief. Best part, they don't promote infections, bateria - I learned the hard way that you can get a yeast infection in your breast. That was not fun. |

| I was the one that recommended the cabbage leaves. The idea is that they retain moisture and thus the cold and I don't know if there is some sort of chemical in them that helps with the engorgement or not. The hope is that they will help with the soreness and fullness. Jackie |

LOL - okay I did an internet search and it seems that this advice is actually given. There is even some research about it. Personally, I would not feel comfortable with cabbage leaves in my bra. Just thinking about it totally cracks me up!! Being engorged totally stinks though, so if it brings you comfort - who cares. I am sure it is a perfectly holistic and natural approach - but I'll go ahead and purchase the gel breast pads.

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | Ok wait, are you trying to dry up your milk or just relieve tenderness/soreness/engorgement? Because I've heard of using the cabbage leaves to relieve engorgement when you are wanting the milk to dry up. Maybe I have misunderstood, but I don't think you are supposed to do it, unless you are trying to end your supply. If that's what you are trying to do then give it a try if you want, personally, the smell would bug me! LOL. |

The info I read stated that women that used the cabbage (by the way, washed, deveined, put in the fridge ) were more successful at breastfeeding, and nursed longer than women that didn't. All the info. I read all sited the same study though.

| I don't know; I am still feeling that nausea after pregnancy, and I can't imagine smelling cabbage. For yeast infections on the breast, I have heard of using gentian violet. It clears it up pretty fast, but your baby's mouth is stained purple and so is your nipple, bra, etc. Saves you a trip to the doctor though.... ![]() |

It may or may not be true, but I've seen it claimed in enough different places that I don't think I'd try it if you aren't trying to dry up, just in case.
