Ask A Nurse Practitioner

Say Hello to Dana...

Dana is our resident Nurse Practitioner. She is a practicing nurse in the PHX area and is also wife to a PHX AME (Aviation Medical Examiner) who assists Jetcareers.com with their aviation related medical questions.

Feel free to ask anything you would normally ask your personal nurse.

Default This may be too TMI for the guys...but..ladies...

I went to my "well woman" appt today (oh aren't they just a joy! ) and my doc told me that if you have 2 years of normal pap results and normal HPV results, you no longer need to get a pap done every year. she said it's not based on age but on family history.

She said as long as your not changing partners or doing, you know "the wrong things" (like drugs or what) and you're using protection (or sticking with the one mate), you can do a pap every 2-3 years.

so, i'm actually excited bout the next few years of NO pap....

I'll still go back and get my breast exams/mammograms every year since i'm high risk...but not having to do a pap, man... that's gonna be SWEET!

also talked to her about the fibroid issue we'd all been discussing and she said that the main symptom is heavy bleeding...i had her check me for them and all she told me was "your movement is really good" which she had to explain to me (as if i ever knew the uterus wasn't "attached"?) that movement is a good thing.. meaning no fibroids are there or have popped up.

She said you normally see them popping up when your in your mid-late 40's up to the late 50's. but Endometrial Ablation is the way to go now a days and that they are making it an elective procedure for those who don't plan on having more kids but do know they have fibroids and want to be proactive...same as what we'd talked about before.

so, aaaahhh....good news to share!
