| Hey Dana (or anyone else): Is there anything I can take for m/s? I've been throwing up almost non stop for three days. I can't keep anything down at all. I've tried saltine crackers, gingerale, gingersnaps, you name it! I can't even feed Emily because to watch her eat makes me puke! And she's cutting three teeth at once so she has diarhea (yay for me and her). If there's ANYTHING I can do for this PLEASE tell me! I'm completely non functioning. Thanks! |

http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/ginger-000246.htm. If you aren't better in a day or so or if it is severe, go see your OB for some phenergan to get you over the hump. You may need IV hydration... Good luck!!

| Jetgirls Plus Member ![]() | Oh my gosh! I had the worst morning sickness all day! I couldn't cook, I couldn't feed the dogs, I couldn't go to the grocery, pump gas, I couldn't do anything!!!. I did have to get help from the doctor cause nothing, I mean nothing would help. She prescribed Zofran. Take as needed. Safe for mama and baby. It was originally prescribed to people who were going through chemo. It was very expensive, like 15 bucks a pill, but then they came out with a generic and insurance companies now cover it. So, now anybody can pretty much afford it if they have insurance. Let me just say, WOW! I don't know what I would have done without it, probably shrivelled up and died from dehydration. It was able to make my day more tollerable. Now, I'm sailing into second tri and have to really deal with the sore boobs, more than at the beginning of the pregnancy. Good luck!

| Jetgirls Member | I feel you pain... it is so hard to take care of a child and have terrible morning sickness. I could not go thorugh a PG without Zofran. I am still really sick on it, but at least not puking ALL the time. If you cannot swallow it and keep it down, you can start with the ones that disolve in your mouth, and if you cannot take that, there is another option that is not so pretty (anal), but (he,he... but) it will get you to where you can take it orally. Sound like the voice of experience? Triplets = EXTREME morning sickness. Try drinking Gatoraid. It helps keep you hydrated. Once you get dehydrated it gets REALLY bad! Find a flavor that works for you and drink as much as you can. I also brushed my teeth after I ate, so I didn't have the taste of eating. Yes, you may gag, feel like puking, while brushing, but it gets the food taste out of your mouth. Hope you feel better soon. |

| Jetgirls Plus Member ![]() | Okay, now I am freaking out! I NEVER, I mean NEVER had morning sickness with my first while flying or second son. When I had an ultrasound done, there appeared to be 2 little sacs, but the tech assured me that there was only one fetus based on heart beat. The other sack was the yolk. I am HUGE for 3 months. I know that you expand faster as you have kids, but geesh. My next appt is next week. Hmm, maybe this one will be a girl and she's already being difficult? lol

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | I was sicker w/ my daughter than w/ my son Brenda, so maybe! But I never actually puked with either. I have heard from a lot of people that Zofran works great. I always chewed gum, spearmint is supposed to help just like ginger, but smelling the mint made it less likely that I'd smell anything else, so it seemed to help. But I know most people get a lot sicker than I do. Gatorade is said to actually not help with hydration. It's made to help extreme sports people that are sweating heavily, it replenishes sodium and potassium. If you aren't heavily sweating, you don't need to replenish your sodium and potassium, so you are pretty much just left w/ sugar and too much sodium, which can act as a diuretic and dehydrate you. Water is pretty much the best thing for regular hydration. At least, this is what I've read from a few different sources, Dana can correct me if I'm wrong since I have no medical expertise, but the places I read that from do. |

Okay, well a nurse recommended it to me... and it worked, that is all I care about. I am not talking about garden variety morning sickness... I did get dehydrated, and was miserable. Since I don't like to sit around attached to an IV, I drank the Gatorade. It had a mild taste (I drank the lemonade or the strawberry orange), and most importantly, I could keep it down. Also, because I was dehydrated, I was extremely constipated (an ugly but true part of PG) so the diuretic aspect was helpful for me. Zofran is very expensive, and around here they do not hand it out easily. Luckily, my insurance did cover it. I was extremely grateful that my Dr. worked with me to get it under control. I took it from week 2 to delivery. It did not keep me from vomiting all the time, and I was still nausous, but I could function and take care of my child.
