| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | I was at a wedding & we were all having a great time until we went to a continuation of the party. Had my finger slammed in the hotel room door by one of B's drunken friends. Fortunately I was fairly inebriated myself and it didn't hurt a whole lot until the next day. Middle finger got the worst of it, very swollen, black & blue, etc. Went to doc & had it x-rayed - it wasn't broken, she said to ice it twice a day & keep it in the finger splint until the swelling went down. The swelling was mostly gone last week & the splint was super annoying, so I took it off. It feels mostly okay, a little numb in the tip of the finger and it hurts if you push on the joint (the joint was the most damaged). The worst part of it right now is the range of motion -- I only have about 90 degrees right now and it still feels very weak. There's also kind of a knot of tissue on the underside of the finger, below the joint. Is there something I can do to speed up the healing and/or get my finger back to normal? Thanks!! ![]() |

| Jetgirls Plus Member ![]() | OUCH! I am so sorry for your pain! Have you talked to a physical therapist???? I just stubbed my litte toe on my left foot 2 nights ago and broke it! The pain! The pain! Did I mention PAIN? All they could do at the orthopedics was just piggy back it to my other toes. OWWEEEEEE! And nothing fo rthe pain since I am pregnant. I swear, somebody just yank my foot off. Is there some sort of numbing stuff I could put on? I can't even walk and DH had to call off a trip to take care of me and the boys since we are all sick.

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | Oh you poor thing!! I think that the pain of stubbed toes & jammed fingers is some of the worst pain you can get! I broke my foot when I was in fifth grade - you never realize how much you need those little suckers until you can't use them! If I had half a brain, I would ask my mother... she's an occupational therapist (they especially do a lot of fine motor work). I'd just rather not have her fussing over me! Have you been doing ice and/or heat?? I wonder if you could try aspercreme (sp?) or something with lidocaine? Whenever I have kids, someone better wrap me in bubble wrap so I don't injure myself!! I think I would die without my drugs, lol! |

man o man...fingers in doors and stubbed toes are the most painful of all injuries, i swear!! just hearing about it makes me wince. maybe putting the foot in ice might help??! and probably some physical therapy moves on the fingers might help it heal quicker and give quicker range of motion.. i'm not really sure about that though. I feel for ya both!!!

X-rays only show you bone injuries it tells you nothing about tendon injuries. If it is still bothering you, you should go back and have it re-evaluated. By now, you should have better range of motion, your PCP can also look at it and if there is ANY question about the tendons, you should see a hand surgeon. If it is not corrected you can be left with limited range of motion. Physical TX is an excellent option but you need to rule out tendon injury first. Dana
