Default Swollen Lymph Nodes?

My two year old son has had a hard, unmoveable, not hot lymph node on the side of his neck for over a year. At each check up the Ped says not to worry. However, I noticed the other day that DS has another lymph node (the same, no heat, not terribly painful -maybe ticklish) about the size of a large pea in his groin area. It is on the same side as the other, right at the junction of this thigh and torso. We don't see the Ped for another two weeks for his 2 year appt and I want to make sure it isn't something I need to worry about. What do you think?

Default Re: Swollen Lymph Nodes?

Hi Jackie,
IMO the lymph node should not remain large for a year. The fact that he now has another one, is a little more concerning. Questions that come to mind, has he been ill recently? that would make the lymph nodes enlarge. They can stay big for several weeks, sometimes even several months but then usually go back down. If the node (s) is firm and nontender and fixed they deserve more attention, even a biopsy. If you opt for the biopsy you will want a surgeon to do that.

As a mom, if you are not comfortable with your doc's answers or you have a "nagging feeling" you should get a second opnion. The beauty of this.... the other guy doesn't even need to know you are doing this if you don't want to tell him. IMO, you can never be to careful, especially when your child is little.
Have they done any blood work on him? CBC with a Differential? This may or may not disclose an issue.

Keep me posted.
Dana
