Hi again, I have had a bit of a cold for 2 days. Yesterday I was pretty wiped out. Today I feel a little better but still not so good. I now have a rash on my neck like I had when I had strep throat at Christmas. I don't have a sore throat, no fever. My stomach feels a little crampy and I feel generally fatigued a little. Is it possible that I still have contracted strep? OR is it possible to have the rash with any type of infection? I always get the scarletina rash when I have strep. Just thought I would ask. I am going in to see the md today to be checked out. Thanks Tricia

Yes I did. They did a quick strep test for strep A. It came back negative. They will send off another culture to the lab. Results will be back on Monday. Since I don't have actual symptoms of strep the doc said not to take the antibiotics unless the results on Mon are positive. He gave me the script to start if I end up with a sore throat over the weekend. He didn't want me taking antibiotics for a rash. He said that yes the rash may have the scarletina characteristic/appearance, but it doesn't mean that it is strep. He also said that I could have a rash that is a result of a viral infection and that it could be my body's inflammatory response. What do you think?

Tricia, Sorry for the delay in answering you. Yes, I agree with your doc and have seen these types of rashes in viral illness, usually after a fever. They are common in children. Usually resolves in 5-7 days. Antibiotics will not help the rash.

Hi Dana, The rash has faded a bit today -- Only flares if I take a hot shower or get overheated. That is so strange. It's only over the past year that I have had the rash issue. Actually this puts my mind at ease knowing that I don't have strep every time I get this horrid rash. So, this is just a question that may not even have an answer, but does our body chemistry change as we get older and/or have children (I have two) that these things happen to us out of the blue?Tricia

Well certainly our bodies change as we age, I don't know that it necessarly has to do with having babies. I can only speak from a personal standpoint on that... when I hit 30......what can I say, I felt like "who took over my body and where did my real body go"? Don't know if anyone else out there has felt this or not. Regarding the rash, my guess would be that when you have kids, THEY expose you to many more virus and bacteria with all the stuff they bring home from day care, school, etc. IMO. That's the mom in me talking. Been there, done that ![]() It is not uncommon for rashes to get worse after a warm bath or shower. It is due to *vasodilitation* (dilation) of the blood vessels, that is what causes the flushing, when you cool down the flair of reddness should get beter. Hope you feel better soon. D

I soooo get what you mean about the changes after 30! I've noticed the major changes when I turned 35 last year. My kids are in pre-k and 1st grade, and I just started teaching music at the pre-school that my youngest son attends. (After being out of the workforce for 7 years.) We are definitely getting exposed to everything All part of the package I suppose. Thanks so much for the advice. It definitely put me at ease. And I am finally after 3 days feeling more like myself again Tricia
