| I had made chicken and rice last night in the crock pot and put it in a container to take with me to work this morning. I accidently left it in the car till 11:00 am. That means from the time it left the crock pot to the time I went and got it, it had been sitting out there for about 3.5 hours. It had been really cold outside around 30 degrees and also when I went do wn to my car to get it it was still warm. I went ahead and ate it but now, two hours, later my stomach is killing me and I have a headache. How easy is it to get food poisoning? Maybe it's just a stomach bug...Thanks! |

| From what I have heard it usually takes 12-24hrs for food poisoning to take it's full effect. I very seriously doubt if it was food poisoning that you would have felt it within 6 hours..... BUT that's just what I have heard. I had food poisoning once and it was from lunch and I felt it the very next morning,,,, ALL DAY!! It was HORRIBLE. |

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | Well I guess I'm saying it was at least 6 hours, hard to say because I don't know what exactly caused the problem but since both times it happened, it was around 2 am, and had been at least 6 hours since I had any food, so if it had been food from earlier in the day, then yes it would have been 12-24 hours. |

| More than likely, NOT food Poisoning. If it were mayonnaise based, you might be at risk in 1-2 hours with the food being left out. Given the fact that the food was chicken and rice, it is not as likely unless the chicken was not handled properly before cooking. Regarding leaving the food in you car, just think, 30 degrees out doors is cooler than your refrigerator. 6-12 hours for food poisoning to hit is about right. Usually pretty sick with diarrhea and vomiting for about 6-12 hours and it is over. Drink lots of fluids. Gatoraide if you are vominting or have a lot of diarrhea Hope you are feeling better, Dana |
