Default Re: Newlywed pilot wife seeking communication advice

Hi Felicia, welcome aboard!!

My dh doesn't travel overseas yet but he's starting to look into the ER routes now that he's getting bored with domestic.

but whenever we travel overseas (about once a month), we take our cellphones and either text message or send photo messages back overseas - it's a bit more costly because of the whole international aspect - but it does the trick because talking via cell while overseas can get way more expensive than just sending a simple text message.

Anyways, does he fly to europe more often because if he's flying into germany or that surrounding area, he could look into getting a t-mobile phone (deutschtelecom over in germany) and getting a t-mobile sim card over there which would help keep the costs lower...

or whereever he flys to more often, have him get a cellphone from that area or even a prepaid cellphone (I think they have those overthere)...

All of the ideas you mentioned above are all great ideas for communication - each one of them will do the trick..and the nice thing about text/photo messages and email is that it can be sent anytime and you'll still get the feeling of staying in touch...

I know it's gotta be difficult with the time changes and all - plus he probably doesn't get a 32 hr layover while there - how long is a normal layover for him?

any chance you can fly with him or meet him over there? do UPS spouses get a spouse card to travel abroad?

I'd say just try to talk once a day for 2 minutes even if it is just to hear a voice on the other end, heavy breathing or what not! haha

he should understand that communication is everything in keeping a marriage afloat! even if it is deemed "frivolous", it's a worthwhile cause...worthy enough to talk about and look into...

Again, welcome to the board!! It's wonderful to get another freight wife on board with a fresh perspective of the differing lifestyles!!
