ASA Downgrades- You've got to be kidding me!!! So, last night I'm hanging out with DF, after he got back from a 2 day, and getting ready to spend the next 5 days sitting at the airport on reserve. No complaints though. He just made CA, made it through training, and LOVES sitting on the left side of the plane. He checks his work email one more time before bed, and he gets a lovely memo from ASA management stating that they are having to downgrade 37 pilots from CA back to FO. He is number 34. He will find out for sure in 10 days. He just made it through training less than 3 weeks ago. He worked so hard, studied so long, and made it through without one single mishap or mess-up. He was doing so well that the instructors were commenting on his flying ability, and how if possible, they would certify him immediately. And then they reward him by making him CA and bumping up his pay 40%...ONLY TO TAKE IT ALL AWAY 3 WEEKS LATER! I understand the economy sucks and businesses are suffering. I understand that everyone has to just be thankful for having a job in the first place and to be happy that he's not being furloughed. However, why is it that those dumb arses at ASA can't figure it out that they don't need 40 more CA's BEFORE they spend thousands of dollars to train them for the fricking position??!!!! I am thankful that we didn't make any large financial changes based on his short-lived increase in pay. But I really can't get over the complete and utter incompetence. I'd like to see the idiot who made the decision in the first place to upgrade. One can only hope that they are sitting behind a desk somewhere and have absolutely no chance of ever actually flying a plane. To top it all off, this information came in memo form. There was no, "We regret to inform you" or "we're sorry we screwed you over and gave you false hope, while wasting your time". Instead, it resembled the following: "look at the below information, if your name appears you may be downgraded to FO. We need to free up 37 CA positions. We will inform you in 10 days of your final position."
It's a nice way to boost employee moral. AS*&%$#S!!!!! |
