I have found the best way to get by is to bring a book and lots of patience. I also check in down by the gate (even though I'm already on the list) I had a gate agent forget to do the standby list once!! She was super nice though I guess I was the only standby (shocker!!) so I waited until everyone was on the plane (the plane was still there though) and asked her if I had any chance of getting on. I'm glad I asked because she would have completely forgotten!
