Re: GoJet?
My husband doesn't like the circumstances he is in either. But he's not considering jumping to a carrier like GoJet. He's carefully considering his options and taking his time to do it correctly.
We are not all 24 year olds with too much time and too few brain cells telling you this--my husband has been flying since 1980. So, it can be construed as insulting when you say that.
In fact, DH told me tonight a GoJet pilot was trying to jumpseat. But they had a "weight and balance" problem and denied his request.
Can a GoJet pilot get hired elsewhere? Yes and no. I saw some in legacy classes this past year. But all will be furloughed soon, I think. And there are other airlines that post the list of applicants for their current pilot ranks to determine disqualification.
My niece in California is married to a published mathematician. Due to budget constraints he lost his job last year at the school where he taught. It's a relatively remote area with no other schools within reasonable commuting distance. He had no trouble finding a job at Home Depot in the garden center (another area of interest to him). In fact, they discovered that he knew so much about the subject matter, and was a teacher that they use him for their classes they offer to the public. Now he has an offer for a teaching position at the local university. It took more than a year, but he did it and worked at Home Depot in the interim. Good for him.
I disagree with the argument that we could blame those just out of flight school. They are the ones who probably have no clue. Those who are older and willingly accept offers from GoJet know what they are joining. And they know the consequences. If you are willing to accept that, sobeit.
Your husband is only 37. He has 28 years (in the current scheme) to go. That is a lifetime! Surely he does not intend GoJet to be his career. But, he is taking steps to ensure that.
Good luck to you in whatever you decide. I do wish you the best.
