I'm glad you talked to someone who is actually doing this but I have to add a few words of caution.

Spartan School of Aeronautics here in Tulsa had a contract with the Chinese gov for a few years. One of Jarred's students is now an instructor for one of their mainlines! The way that contract worked was that the students came here to the states to train through their MEI, then went back to China to do their types. Spartan tried to do a deal where Spartan instructors would go to China and teach but it fell through (maybe your friend's company got the deal instead). The problem was that several instructors had sold their homes and everything and it fell apart at the last minute.

It was a VERY interesting experience to say the least, teaching those students. That group was the "cream of the crop" so to speak in terms of high intelligence and test scores. They did well with the book learning as that was their educational experience/background but were not always able to translate that into the cockpit and actual flying. There was also the language barrier. These students were supposedly chosen for their high English skills but again, not always the case. I imagine this would be a greater prob when teaching in China without the benefit of being emmersed in an English speaking culture. And then some incidentals like the food they eat creates a unique body odor that can be very overpowering when combined with cultural hygene differences, Oklahoma summers and Cessna cockpits!

Now with all that said, we loved a couple of DH's students. We learned a lot from each other. My fav was that in China, new mothers are required to stay in bed for a month and do nothing -not even bathe! Jarred's students were appalled when we brought our first baby to the school when he was three days old. Our fav student, who we called Neo, was very disappointed in Jarred's husbandly behavior!

So, like with any opportunity, I guess I'm saying approach it with caution and skepticism and really, really do your homework!
