Re: hospital stay after birth In terms of the circ, my OB did both my boys with a Bell device. Google Bell and circumcision and see what it is -it was GREAT. Essentially, they cut off the circulation to the foreskin causing it to fall off in a few days. There is NO cutting and NO upkeep (petroleum jelly/gauze) and both are beautiful (can you call a circ beautiful?). My ped mentioned both times that they were the best circs he'd seen in awhile. My OB says that they often use them in circs for older kids and adults because it is less traumatic. Basically a little bell is inserted under the foreskin that has a hole in it to let out urine. Then the string is tied around the outside of the foreskin, causing it to die and fall off. The bell falls off in a week or so and its done. With DS #1 it did adhere a little bit and bleed just a little when it fell off -the diaper caught it and pulled it off but it didn't seem to hurt Jason when it happened. I HIGHLY recommend it. Check with your doc if they use it, not many here do.....
In terms of length of stay, I certainly wouldn't want to go back to the days of "drive through deliveries". By God, I'll be darned if the insurance company should be able to tell my Doc when I should be D/c'd. I did appreciate the time I was in the first time and I used every minute of it. DH and I had a wonderful time just hanging out with the baby. The staff got a kick out of repeatedly finding us ALL in the bed together watching TV. However the second time, there was Jason to be cared for at home and I missed him and overall I was just less tolerant of being woken up and it just never failed that everytime I fell asleep, someone would come in. At one point, the CNA came in after MIDNIGHT to take my vitals because they were so busy. It was ridiculus (at this point they were only taking them one time per shift).
