I forgot to ask you? How are Doug's schedules lately? With his seniority, is he able to hold weekends off? DOes he normally do 4 on 3 off?

his seniority has increased enough that he is able to get all the weekends off and do 4 day on, 3 day off type trips... i like that he gets the weekends, but the pain in the rear is that he's working 4 days - some of which are commutable, some of which aren't.. so the opportunity for us to actually travel together after a trip are few and far between. figure he works 4 days and if we want to go on a trip, it takes his 3 days off.. then he's right back in there on a 4 day trip - so it's almost like he really gets NO break...
so we're trying to get his schedule to work out a bit better.. he still wants the weekends offk, but i'm thinking if he were to work one weekned a month or so, then maybe he could get a couple of longer weekends so we can go somewhere/do something AND he would get some *home* time. you can only do what you're able to work with in this industry and it's all about the finagling!

what if he was to book a trip (line?) that was 4 on, 3 off - 3 off then 4 on (and start the next trip with the 3 off again)? that way he'd have 6 days off in a row

that'd work great if i wasn't working full time & if all the schedules didn't change on a monthly basis...Each schedule changes in destination, duty in time, duty out time, layover time etc etc that it can't ALWAYS work out that way unless you have really HIGH seniority in the company.
he was actually able to do that this month, so we're going to take a friday - monday and go somewhere (i think we're trying for Berlin or Moscow since they're new DAL destinations)...
it's actually pretty hard for him to get a schedule that works like that with the 6 days overlaping weekends. gotta remember that there are 300 something lines (at DAL) to bid on and Sir Pilot has to go thru each one to find the top 150 that will be the best for both him & for us...it's hard to do..because there's a lot of things that are important to making the schedule a good schedule for all parties involved.
I've asked him to compile his top 10 of what's important to what's least important and I'll post it as soon as i get them from him.
