I agree with just letting him sleep where he wants just so he's safe. When my 11-yr-old son was younger, I'm thinking about 5 at the time, he went through a stage of not wanting to sleep in his bed. But he loved sleeping in a tent. So, you know what we did? We put the mattress in the tent in his room and he slept in there for a long time. I can't remember exactly how long, but at least a year.
