I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis several years ago, it's a different kind of hypothyroidism, but I also have to be on levothyroxine for the rest of my life. It scared me a bit at first, but it's really not a big deal. Once you're on the medication a bit you'll feel SOOO much better, and a lot of the time people loose some weight as well!

Try to keep those positives in mind while you're going through the biopsy *hugs*
