Default GPS for kids

I have no idea why but this has been on my mind lately, so I thought I would start a post and see how the discussion goes...

you can now get cell phones with GPS, you can put them in cars, and can buy watches with GPS so....IF you had the chance to microchip your child with GPS would you do it?

here are my pros and cons of it:

pros: 1. if your child went missing or was taken you could have a chance of finding them. 2. If during the teenage years your child took a major turn for the bad, ie drugs, running away. You would have one more thing in your bag to help them.

cons: they mostly deal with the teeange years. 1. I think part of growing up is to learning to make choices and suffer the effects of bad choices. Are *they* really making the choice not to go to the party only b/c they KNOW you can look and they will get caught.

Also would you tell them that they are microchiped? If you had a troubled teen they could easly cut it out if they didn't want to be found.

I am guessing that the the right of privacy will be a big issue. But I think as a child/teenage that is something that you start out with, but if your behavior indicates trouble, then the right and responsiblity of the parent to step in and interven overrides the right to privacy.
