I have worked for several different airlines. Only the employee's parents get passes, not the parents of the spouse. Both of his parents have passed away, but I think his father used his passes maybe 3 times. We don't bother giving out buddy passes. CAL's are too expensive, flights are too full, and not worth the hassle.
