Yup....the 405 is my nemesis as well (LAX to almost the Long Beach airport). I go in at stupid o'clock in the morning so I can get the 20 miles in under 35 minutes, but it's never shorter than an hour on the way home (longer if there's an accident...and there's usually an accident).
