I find something to take his mind off his troubles. He's a very good baby, and only complains when somethings wrong (he's hungry, tired or needs new diaper) or when he's bored. So I'll make sure it's not meal time or nap time, change his pants, and if he's still bitchy I show him toys until he finds one that entertains him.

When he was newborn we did give him the pacifier whenever he wanted it. It's just been the past 2-3 months we've been keeping it for crib & carseat use only.
