Default Re: Comair Crash

First off, God Bless the families of the passengers on the Comair flight. Our prayers and best wishes are with you all and with the first officer of the flight.

Given that I was just at Bluegrass field on July 28, after having talked with my husband, the runway setup lends itself to be a little confusing. I can easily see how disorienting it could be get lined up on the wrong runway, especially in the dark of the morning. They've resurfaced in the past few weeks also. They're adding on to the terminal to make way for more gates.

Let's also throw in the possibility of reduced rest if that was indeed a factor. I don't know how many times my husband has come home exhausted after a 16-hour duty day after <10 hours of rest. That 10 hours includes: shutting down the aircraft, walking through the terminal to get to the hotel van, waiting on the hotel van if it's not there yet, taking the 10-30 minute plus trip to the hotel, signing in, getting into the room, taking a shower, getting the uni ready for the next day, getting to sleep, waking up in time the next day for the van, taking the trip back to the airport, doing the pre-flight checks and then boarding the pax. Ok...somebody tell me...just HOW much rest does the crew get on a night like this? And then tack on a 16+ hour 5-leg day as day 3 of a 3-day trip!

Don't get me started on the CDO's!!! I hate them! I will not let my husband fly them because I think they are unsafe. There should be an FAA mandated rest time that is universal to all airline crews that compensates for the incidentals that crews face on a nightly basis. These incidentals are not factored in to crew rest and they should be.

This accident hits a little too close to home since I have become rather familiar with the "mighty RJ" as we call it, since my DH has been flying it for the last 5 years.

Godspeed Comair 5191.
