I think a back up degree is a great idea.

As far as the whole relationship thing, I think it's cute that you're thinking that far ahead, but my advice.... don't. It'll all fall into place. It is possible to be a pilot and be in a happy marriage. Worry about school, the relationship stuff will work out itself out.

ETA: pilots aren't the only people who are underpaid and away from their families alot. Doctors do it, military families do it, truck drivers do it. If you have your priorities in order, you'll have nothing to worry about.
